Putting an “Invisible Armor” on Metal: Getting to Know the Anodizing Process

Today, let’s explore a special process that gives metal both exceptional durability and lasting good looks: anodizing. This is no simple paint or coating—it’s an electrochemical marvel that takes place right on the metal surface.

First, through thorough degreasing and surface preparation, the metal is given a clean base. Then, in an electrolyte bath with an electric current applied, a layer of extremely hard, porous oxide film “grows” on the metal surface, becoming seamlessly integrated with the metal itself. Next, colors are infused into these tiny pores, so the hue emerges from within — stable and uniform. Finally, a sealing operation locks the color in place while also enhancing the surface’s wear and corrosion resistance. This complete process puts an invisible, sturdy armor on the metal.

The benefits of this “invisible armor” are very real: anodized hardware is exceptionally durable, moisture-resistant, and resists aging. The color seems to grow naturally within the metal — uniform and fade-resistant — with a wide range of options, including elegant matte or subtle satin finishes that add value to home design. The hard surface resists scratches and impacts, maintaining its beauty for a long time.
